How will the Colts handle the unexpected retirement of left tackle Tarik Glenn?
While Glenn’s retirement was unexpected, the Colts made a draft-day move to prepare for his eventual departure. GM Bill Polian gave up a future first-rounder to the 49ers to acquire Tony Ugoh in the second round. The original plan was to insert Ugoh at guard during his first year, but Glenn’s departure has forced him into the lineup at left tackle. His learning curve will be accelerated by his daily practice battles opposite Dwight Freeney and lots of snaps during the preseason. If he falters early in camp, the Colts have several options to consider. Backup Charlie Johnson performed well at right tackle during the Super Bowl, while subbing for an injured Ryan Diem, and saw action in 20 games. The Colts could also move starting right guard Jake Scott back to his collegiate position to shore up the left tackle spot.
