How much different will the Falcons’ offense look with Joey Harrington under center?
Michael Vick’s legal problems have forced the Falcons to enter the season with Harrington as their starting quarterback. This switch will certainly change the look of the Falcons offense. Bobby Petrino’s plan to blend Vick’s creativity and improvisational skills with a dynamic passing attack will now give way to a more systematic approach with Harrington. The Falcons will likely rely on a strong running game, complemented by a diverse passing attack, featuring lots of play action and quick-rhythm throws. That would appear to fall in line with Harrington’s strengths as a streaky, but rhythmic passer. Though his faults (decision making, accuracy and pocket poise) will have to be minimized, he has a chance to keep the Falcons in the hunt — if he can get big performances from Joe Horn, Alge Crumpler and Jerious Norwood.
